I will be attending AWP 2023 in Seattle, WA from March 8-12 at the Seattle Convention Center.
As a part of the AWP Two-Year College Creative Writing Caucus (say that three times fast), I am the moderator and a presenter on panel T158, It’s Possible: Advocating for Two-Year College Creative Writing Students.
Here’s the description:
Room 332, Summit Building, Seattle Convention Center, Level 3
Thursday, March 9, 2023
12:10 pm to 1:25 pm
As members of underserved populations, community college students are often overlooked as potential writers by the writing community and themselves. Students may underestimate the value of pursuing a creative writing class, program, or career. Panelists from institutions across the country who teach diverse, high-risk, low-income students will discuss the challenges of recruiting students into creative writing programs and how they overcome various obstacles while fostering literary citizenship.
The acceptance rate for this conference is quite low, so I’m excited to not only attend but that the proposal I wrote (with help) was accepted.
I’ll be seeing colleagues as well as my best friend from high school and my brother, who also lives on the East Coast. I have a lot to do to get ready, but it will all be worth it. I can’t wait to meet and hear amazing writers, attend phenomenal panels and readings, and see old friends. Also, did I mention it’s in Seattle?
I’ll be reading from my book In Fidelity on Friday, March 10, from 4-6 pm at Seattle Central College as well.
I’ll be attending the Defunkt reading at The Blarney Stone Pub on March 9 from 7-9 pm.
I haven’t combed through the program yet, but I’m sure there will be much more than I can possibly do. And that is a good problem to have.
